Maco lighting bans the use of NI-CD batteries in all their products due to Environmental and health concerns.

For years makers of emergency lighting products have dragged their feet on the environmental and health dangers caused by NICD batteries. The dangers of not disposing of these batteries in the correct manner affect us all. In landfill the heavy metals leak out into the environment and eventually make it into the waterways and our food chains.

The effects of Cadmium on humans have been well documented, from Itai-ital disease to renal abnormalities, including proteinuria and glucosuria and is one of the reasons it is one of 6 substances banned by the European union under the ROHS directive  [ Emergency Lighting is one area which has been given an exception].

Maco lighting has tested and tried NIMH batteries for years and over that time have found a number of manufactures who manufacture exceptional quality and reliable High temperature batteries that can be used in emergency lighting. With the data collected, Maco lighting has taken the responsibility to help lead the market place away from the toxic batteries and have actively banned NI-CD batteries in production of its products.

It is hoped that the competitors also see the light and put the environment and community health ahead of long engraved tradition.
